MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

MEETING No. 35

Thursday, FEBRUARY 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in camera at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Nick Discepola, Sheila Finestone, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, Jack Ramsay and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Members present: Chuck Cadman for Paul E. Forseth, Myron Thompson for Garry Breitkreuz.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the National Parole Board: Willie Gibbs, Chairman; Eleanor King, Manager, Inquiry. From the Correctional Service of Canada: Ole Ingstrup, Commissioner; Richard Clair, Corporate Secretary.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of two (2) reports of a Joint Board of Investigation from the National Parole Board and the Correctional Service of Canada.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
