LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendation 1:

That Industry Canada work aggressively with representative associations and trade organizations to promote special interest Web pages on its Strategis Internet site with links and newsgroup facilities to provide Year 2000 information and to aid the discussion of solutions.

Recommendation 2:

That the federal government publicly disclose details of the Year 2000 readiness of its essential services and of the relevant contingency plans of key departments on a monthly basis starting in March 1999.

Recommendation 3:

That provincial/territorial and local governments publicly disclose details of the Year 2000 readiness of their essential services and of their relevant contingency plans.

Recommendation 4:

That Health Canada actively canvass the provincial/territorial governments, local health authorities and health care associations as to what additional information on health sector Year 2000 problems and solutions could be shared nationwide over the Health Canada Internet site.

Recommendation 5:

The Committee reiterates Recommendation 10 from the May 1998 Report:

That Health Canada publish the names of manufacturers and importers of medical devices who do not furnish necessary Year 2000 compliance information in a timely fashion, and start regulatory or legal action against them.

Recommendation 6:

That the federal and provincial/territorial governments monitor the total costs of Year 2000 remediation in health care to ensure that high quality medical services to Canadians are not compromised.

Recommendation 7:

That Emergency Preparedness Canada and the Department of National Defence, in conjunction with provincial/territorial authorities, keep local officials updated with Year 2000 information packages as the Year 2000 approaches.
