MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 1999
(Meeting No. 80)

The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Reed Elley, Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Robert D. Nault, Bernard Patry, Pauline Picard, Karen Redman, Rose-Marie Ur, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Keith Martin for Gurmant Grewal.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the State of Organ and Tissue Donation in Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998).

The Committee resumed consideration of its draft report.

It was agreed, - That the draft Report (as amended) be adopted as the Committee's Fifth Report to the House and that the Chairman be instructed to present it to the House.

It was agreed, - That the title of the Report be: Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation in Canada: A Canadian Approach.

It was agreed, - That the Chairman be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the draft Report.

It was agreed, - That the Committee print 2,000 copies of its Fifth Report in tumble bilingual format with a distinctive cover and colour highlights in the inside.

It was agreed, - That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the Report within one hundred and fifty (150) days.

It was agreed, - That the members have until 5:00 o'clock p.m. on Friday, April 16, 1999 to submit their editorial changes to the Clerk of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the Committee authorize the printing of the dissenting opinions in this Report immediately after the signature of the Chair, that they be limited to not more than 3 pages, and delivered in both official languages, to the Clerk of the Committee by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 1999.

It was agreed, - That the Committee acknowledge the very good work of the Clerk and the Research Officers.

At 12:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
