The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:04 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 269 West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Dan McTeague, Lynn Myers, Beth Phinney, Rose-Marie Ur, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
Acting Member present: Charles Hubbard for Joseph Volpe.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Nancy Miller-Chenier, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From Health Canada: Paul Cochrane, Assistant Deputy Minister, Medical Services Branch; Dr. Jay Wortman, Director General, Non-Insured Health Benefits.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 13 of the October 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (Health Canada - First Nations Health). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 6, 1997).
Paul Cochrane made an opening statement and, with Dr. Wortman, answered questions.
At 12:26 o'clock p.m., the Committee proceeded to consider future business.
Reed Elley moved, - That the Minister of Health or his officials be invited to appear before the Committee on the Estimates on Thursday, November 20, 1997.
And debate arising thereon, the motion was adopted.
It was agreed, - That the Committee hold a working meeting on Thursday, November 20, 1997, and that this meeting be open.
At 12:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
