Thursday, November 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:57 a.m. o'clock this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bill Graham, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed, Svend Robinson, Daniel Turp.

Acting Member present: Paul Mercier for Maud Debien.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Delagation: From the IN COMMON Mission in South-East Asia: Jean Augustine, Member for Etobicoke-Lakeshore (Lib.); Libby Davies, Member for Vancouver East (NDP); Daniel Turp, Member for Beauharnois-Salaberry (BQ); Roy Culpeper, President, North-South Institute; Betty Plewes, President-CEO, Canadian Council for International Cooperation; Gauri Sreenivasan, Policy Coordinator, Canadian Council International Cooperation.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to examine the situation in South-East Asia.

Betty Plewes, Roy Culpeper, Jean Augustine, Libby Davies and Daniel Turp each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:20 p.m. o'clock, the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
