The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:11 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rey Pagtakhan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Rey Pagtakhan and Andrew Telegdi.
Acting Member present: Gurmant Grewal for Jack Ramsay.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Immigration and Refugee Board: Nurjehan Mawani, Chairperson; Nicole Senécal, Executive Director; Philip Palmer, Senior General Counsel, Director, Legal Services; Denis Kingsley, Director, Corporate Management; Don Gerlitz, Director, Standards, Analysis and Monitoring Policy, Planning and Research Branch.
The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference dated March 1, 1999 relating to the Main Estimates for the Fiscal year 1999-2000. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, May 26, 1999, Meeting No. 65)
The Chair called Vote 15 under Citizenship and Immigration and pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), proceeded to consider the Report on Plans and Priorities relating to Immigration and Refugee Board.
Nurjehan Mawani made an opening statement, and with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
