Wednesday, March 24, 1999

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Rey Pagtakhan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, John McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Rey Pagtakhan and Andrew Telegdi.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Adoption Council of Canada: Willa Marcus, (Toronto) Legal Counsel; From the Canadian Citizenship Federation: Eric Teed, Vice-President - Atlantic Region, St.John, N.B.; Diana Togneri, Past President; From the Canadian Family Action Coalition: Peter Stock, National Affairs Director.

Pursuant to an Order or Reference of the House dated March 1, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-63, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, March 3, 1999, Meeting No. 50)

The Committee resumed consideration of Clause 2.

Diana Togneri and Eric Teed from the Canadian Citizenship Federation made statements and answered questions.

Peter Stock from the Canadian Family Action Coalition made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 1999.
