The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:33 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 362-E, East Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Sarmite Bulte, Norman Doyle, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Louise Hardy, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Appearing: The Hon. Lucienne Robillard, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Brian Grant, Acting Director General, Enforcement Branch; Janice Cochrane, Deputy Minister; Gerry Campbell, Assistant Deputy Minister - Operations; Georges Tsaï, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services;.
The Order of Reference of the House of Commons dated February 26, 1998, in relation to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999, being read as follows:
That, Votes 1, 5, 10 and 15 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION be referred to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.
The Chair called Votes 1, 5, 10 and 15.
The Hon. Lucienne Robillard made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
