Rehabilitation continues on Canada’s Parliament

Ottawa, May 31, 2024 -

PARLIAMENT HILL – The Auditor General of Canada found in a 2023 performance audit that, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) effectively managed the early phases of the Centre Block Rehabilitation Program to rehabilitate Parliament’s Centre Block and build the new Parliament Welcome Centre. Key findings of the audit include:
  • During several project phases, PSPC had thus far effectively managed the scope, schedule, and costs and kept the program on schedule and within costs
  • One way it achieved this was by using flexible management approaches.
  • PSPC collaborated with many stakeholders to balance sustainability, heritage, accessibility, and inclusivity elements.
  • However, the governance of the rehabilitation program remained fragmented, resulting in delays in obtaining key decisions on some user requirements from the parliamentary partners.
A report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, presented today in the House of Commons by Committee Chairman John Williamson, makes two recommendations to ensure that the Auditor General’s recommendations are adequately addressed, and that PSPC provide evidence of this to the Committee through progress reports.
