Shelley Petit - Recipient

Ottawa, December 06, 2022 -

On Monday, November 28, 2022, the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (the Committee) chose Shelley Petit as the recipient of the 2022 edition of the Centennial Flame Research Award. The Committee would like to thank everyone who applied.

Ms. Petit’s work will focus on researching and creating an online community platform to provide support to combat isolation for persons with disabilities.

The Centennial Flame Research Award is granted each year by the Committee to a Canadian with a disability to enable them to conduct research and prepare a report on the contributions of one or more persons with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament, in accordance with the Centennial Flame Research Award Act.

For the year 2022, the award amounts to $6,700. Funding for this award is collected from the Centennial Flame monument on Parliament Hill and from any monetary donations made to the Centennial Flame Research Award Fund.

The process for the 2023 award will be launched in the coming months.
