Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, the committee resumed its study of the opioid epidemic and toxic drug crisis in Canada.

At 3:38 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:06 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the committee continue to sit.

At 4:13 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

Motion

Laila Goodridge moved, — That the committee invites the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health before the committee for no less than two hours; and that the study of the opioid epidemic and toxic drug crisis in Canada be extended by six meetings to invite further witnesses.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Élisabeth Brière moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words “the committee invites the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health before the committee for no less than two hours; and that”; and by replacing the word “six” with the word “two”.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the amendment of Élisabeth Brière and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the study of the opioid epidemic and toxic drug crisis in Canada be extended by two meetings to invite further witnesses.
