Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the committee proceeded to a briefing on the current H5N1 Avian Flu situation in the United States.

It was agreed, — That the staff of the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Public Health Agency of Canada be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera briefing.

It was agreed, — That MP Randy Hoback be permitted to attend the in camera briefing session.

Robert Ianiro, Tom Rosser, Donald Sheppard, Cathy Toxopeus and Angela Rasmussen made statements and, with Mary Jane Ireland, answered questions.

At 12:06 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the committee continue to sit.

At 12:40 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $8,250, for the briefing on the Current H5N1 Avian Flu Situation in the United States, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the committee meet in camera, in an informal meeting, with a delegation of members from the Committee on Food and Agriculture of the German Parliament on Thursday, May 23, 2024; and that the committee defray the hospitality expenses related to this meeting.
