Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, October 22, 2020, the committee resumed its study of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the government’s ability to deliver information in both official languages.

Yvon Barrière made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pam Aung Thin made a statement and, with Manon Bombardier, answered questions.

At 7:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:58 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

By unanimous consent, Soraya Martinez Ferrada moved, — That the Minister of Official Languages be invited to appear to present the Government of Canada’s public reform document for the modernization of the Official Languages Act, entitled “English and French: Towards a Substantive Equality of Official Languages in Canada,” tabled in the House on February 19, 2021, and to answer questions from the Committee on a date to be determined by the Chair.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 4,600, for the study of government measures to protect and promote French in Quebec and in Canada, be adopted.

At 8:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
