Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the committee to undertake a study of countervailing and antidumping duties on the imports of Canadian softwood lumber by the United States.

Motion

Tracy Gray moved, — That, the Committee hold a meeting to invite the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade and relevant government officials to discuss the United States Department of Commerce’s preliminary determinations increasing duties on Canadian softwood lumber exports from 8.99% to 18.32%; that the meeting be at least two hours in length; that the Minister appear for no fewer than one hour and that appropriate government officials appear for no fewer than two hours; that this meeting occur no later than June 4, 2021.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “June 4, 2021” the words “whereas the meetings of June 7, June 11 and June 14 be devoted to Bill C-216, An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act (supply management)”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Ziad Aboultaif, Chandra Arya, Rachel Bendayan, Sukh Dhaliwal, Tracy Gray, Matthew Green, Randy Hoback, Ben Lobb, Randeep Sarai, Terry Sheehan — 10;

NAYS: — 0.

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, March 12, 2021, the committee resumed its study of Canada’s international trade and investment policy: selected considerations concerning COVID-19 vaccines.
