Pursuant to the motion adopted by the House of Commons on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the committee to discuss the logistics of the committee testimony of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Katie Telford, Craig Kielburger, Marc Kielburger, former WE Board Chair Michelle Douglas and the CFO of WE Victor Li; including but not limited to the panels they will appear on and the length of their respective testimony.

Motion

Peter Fragiskatos moved, — That the Chair be empowered to schedule meetings with the witnesses listed in the request for today’s meeting as the Chair deems appropriate.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

NAYS: Michael Cooper, James Cumming, Peter Julian, Marty Morantz, Pierre Poilievre, Gabriel Ste-Marie — 6.

Motion

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That Craig Kielberger and Marc Kielberger appear before the committee for no less than 4 hours on Tuesday, July 28, and, if this is not possible, they appear for 2 hours on Tuesday, July 28, and 2 hours on Thursday, July 30.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That the Committee invites Victor Li to appear before the committee between Monday, August 3, and Friday, August 7, inclusively, for no less than 2 hours.

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That the Standing Committee on Finance continue to hold hearings until the list of witnesses committee members submit is exhausted; and that the subcommittee convene to discuss scheduling of meeting for witnesses to attend.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Sean Fraser moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words “until the list of witnesses committee members submit is exhausted”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Sean Fraser and it was agreed to.

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Standing Committee on Finance continue to hold hearings; and that the subcommittee convene to discuss scheduling of meeting for witnesses to attend.

Motion

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That the Prime Minister appear for no less than three hours alone as a witness, on his own panel; that Katie Telford appear for no less than two hours, alone as a witness, on her own panel; and that the two appear separately.

Debate arose thereon.

At 6:16 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
