Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of the full implementation of the Official Languages Act in the Canadian justice system.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

Motion

Darrell Samson moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and/or departmental officials to present and explain the Department’s Action Plan: Enhancing the Bilingual capacity of the Superior Courts.

Debate arose thereon.

On motion of François Choquette, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “and/or departmental officials” with the words “or the Parliamentary Secretary for the first hour and the departmental officials for second hour ”.

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee invite the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada or the Parliamentary Secretary for the first hour and the departmental officials for second hour to present and explain the Department’s Action Plan: Enhancing the Bilingual capacity of the Superior Courts.

At 4:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
