The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in camera at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Royal Galipeau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Corneliu Chisu, Royal Galipeau, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Bryan Hayes, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, John Rafferty and Peter Stoffer.

 

Acting Members present: Dan Albas for Parm Gill and Anne-Marie Day for Manon Perreault.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Charlotte Bastien, Director General, Field Operations; Janice Burke, Senior Director, Strategic Policy Integration; André Levesque, Director General, Commemoration Division.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, when the Committee hears from officials of the Department of Veterans Affairs on November 7, 2013, it also invite, at the same time or at another meeting following that, a limited number of stakeholders in order to hear their point of view.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Owen J.W. Parkhouse of Morell, Prince Edward Island, and Lise Dionne of Verdun, Quebec, who were recently appointed by the Governor General in Council, to appear before the Committee, in relation to their appointment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 

At 11:48 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:53 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, the Committee commenced its study on the programs and activities of Veterans Affairs Canada.
 

Janice Burke, Charlotte Bastien and André Levesque made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:23 p.m., Peter Stoffer took the Chair.

 

At 12:27 p.m., Royal Galipeau took the Chair.

 

At 12:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 12:44 p.m., Peter Stoffer took the Chair.

 

By unanimous consent, the Committee took one minute of silence in honour of the veterans.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
