Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.
I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, cannot entertain points of order, and cannot participate in debate.

[Translation]

We can now proceed to the election of the chair.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.

I'm ready to receive motions for the election of the chair.
    Go ahead, Mr. McGuinty.
    Thank you, Mr. Clerk.
I'd like to nominate Mr. Leon Benoît as chair of the committee.
It has been moved by Mr. McGuinty that Mr. Leon Benoît be elected chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
I'd like to move that we close nominations.
Are there any further motions for chair of the committee? I see none.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Benoît duly elected chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Clerk: Before I invite Mr. Benoît to take the chair, if the committee wishes, we'll now proceed to the election of the vice-chairs.

Under the circumstances, I must move that nominations be closed.
    (Motion agreed to)
I declare the motion carried and Mr. McGuinty duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!

[English]

The Clerk: I now invite Mr. Benoît to take the chair.
Can I ask the chair a question?
    Monsieur Gravelle, go ahead.
I'd like to know how many robocalls you made to get this election.

  (1105)

It was substantive. It was a substantial number, yes. You saw the campaigning before the meeting. It was tough campaigning.
I'd like to thank you all for electing me to this position again, and I congratulate the two vice-chairs.
I want to congratulate two members of this committee who got married over the summer. Mr. Trost, and I understand Mr. Julian too, got married, so congratulations to both of you.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Chair: I don't know what it is about this committee, but any single people ought to be a little cautious, I guess, and be very careful. Great.
There's no further business for this committee. We were here strictly to elect the chair and the vice-chairs. The next meeting will deal with future business, so if you'll come prepared to deal with that next Tuesday, we'll determine the future of this committee at least for the next few months.
We have a new analyst. I'd like to introduce Milana Simikian. Welcome to our committee. It's great to have you, and we're looking forward to working with you in the months ahead.
    Go ahead, Monsieur Galipeau.
In the spirit of the smooth running of this meeting today, I'd like to propose adjournment.
    This meeting is adjourned.
