The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 11:42 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Vice-Chair, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Anne-Marie Day, Sana Hassainia, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Judy Sgro and Jean Crowder for Marie-Claude Morin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst; Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Holke David, Procedural Clerk; Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Jo-Ann Greene, Senior Policy Advisor, Lands Modernization Directorate; Andrew Beynon, Director General, Community Opportunities Branch. Department of Justice: Karl Jacques, Senior Counsel, Operations and Programs.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Eleventh Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

That, in relation to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2013, respecting Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves,

1. The Committee hear from witnesses at its meetings of Tuesday, April 30, Thursday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 7, 2013, and that the hearing for these meetings be divided into two one-hour panels of two groups or individuals;

2. The Committee schedule two additional meetings on Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., to hear from up to eight witnesses at each meeting, and that each of those witnesses/organizations be allowed up to five minutes for their opening statement.
 

At 11:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting resumed in a public and televised session.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves.
 

Jo-Ann Greene, Andrew Beynon and Karl Jacques answered questions.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
