The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen St., the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Patrick Brown, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Bonnie Crombie, Dean Del Mastro, Royal Galipeau, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Blake Richards and Pablo Rodriguez.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Scott Simms, Peter Julian for Charlie Angus and Megan Anissa Leslie for Charlie Angus.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Steve Verheul, Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; Robert Ready, Director General, Intellectual Property and Services Trade Policy Bureau; Edith St-Hilaire, Director, Intellectual Property Trade Policy Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study on the Canada-European Union comprehensive economic and trade agreement, the anti-counterfeiting trade agreement, and issues regarding cultural diversity.
 

The Honourable Peter Van Loan made a statement and, with Steve Verheul, answered questions.

 

At 4:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Robert Ready made a statement and, with Edith St-Hilaire, answered questions.

 

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee complete its reports on emerging and digital media, cultural diversity, private television ownership changes, and the Canadian Tourism Commission, and proceed to its future studies in the following order: the mandate and future of the CBC, the transition to digital television and the anniversary of the War of 1812.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
