The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Dawn Black, Steven Blaney, Ray Boughen, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Hon. Anita Neville, Pascal-Pierre Paillé and LaVar Payne.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Bryon Wilfert and Jack Harris for Dawn Black.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: MGen M. Duval, Commander 1 Canadian Air Division, Canadian NORAD Region.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 2, 2009, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the recent incident of a Russian military aircraft approaching Canada's Airspace.
 

MGen M. Duval made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:49 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 4:54 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:55 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 23, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the order adopted on Monday, March 9, 2009, the Standing Committee on National Defence meet on April 20 and 22, 2009, to consider a draft report related to its study of health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
