The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Bob Dechert, Daryl Kramp, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Ted Menzies, Massimo Pacetti, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations 2009.
 

Avrim Lazar, Peter Boag, Harry Zarins, Suzanne Fortier, Chad Gaffield, Christine Fitzgerald, Dave Walker and Peter Halpin made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Roger Jackson, José Pereira, Andrea Grantham, Graham Cox, Richard Rendeck, Myron Keehn, Dan Paszkowski and Joyce Reynolds, made statements and, with Alex Baumann and Sharon Baxter, answered questions.

 

At 11:35 a.m., Massimo Pacetti took the Chair.

 

At 11:40 a.m., James Rajotte took the Chair.

 

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the 3rd Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

That on November 24, November 26, and December 1st, 2009, the Committee study the draft report on the Pre-budget Consultations 2009; and

That the Committee hold hearings:

On November 25, 2009, to study Bill C-288, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (tax credit for new graduates working in designated regions);

On December 3rd, 2009, to begin the study on self employed persons and their classification as personal service business by the Canadain Revenue Agency;

On January 26, 2010, for the appearance before the Committee of the Parliamentary Budget Officer; and

On January 28, 2010, to begin the study on pensions.

 

On motion of Mike Wallace, it was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 

At 12:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
