The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Blaine Calkins, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Justin Trudeau for Ruby Dhalla.

 

Associate Members present: Bruce Hyer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst. House of Commons: Michelle Tittley, Procedural Clerk.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Jeffrey David Watson, it was agreed, — That James Bezan be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of Justin Trudeau, it was agreed, — That Francis Scarpaleggia be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Christian Ouellet, it was agreed, — That Bernard Bigras be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

James Bezan took the Chair.

 

At 11:11 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:15 a.m., the sitting resumed and the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 97.1(1), the Committee report to the House seeking an extension of thirty sitting days for it to complete its consideration of Bill C 311, An Act to ensure Canada assumes its responsibilities in preventing dangerous climate change, and that the study, clause by clause consideration and reporting of the Bill be completed by the end of the extension period.

 

At 1:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
