The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Hon. Mark Eyking, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

Acting Members present: Roger Pomerleau for André Bellavance and Merv Tweed for Larry Miller.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst ; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Renderers Association: Graham Clarke, Government Liaison; André Couture, Chairman of the Board, Sanimax. Fédération des producteurs de bovins du Québec: Philip Cola, Manager, Levinoff-Colbex; Michel Dessureault, Chairman. Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Laurent Pellerin, President. Canadian Meat Council: Brian Read, Vice-President, Non-Fed Sales and Government Relations for XL Foods Inc. Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Brad Wildeman, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the situation of the red meat sector.

Brad Wildeman, Graham Clarke, Laurent Pellerin, Michel Dessureault and Brian Read made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
