The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Luc Malo for André Bellavance.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen and Rod Bruinooge.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Isabelle Duford, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Pulse Canada: Gordon Bacon, Chief Executive Officer; Barry Grabo, Chair. Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Mike Bast, Chair; Stephen Vandervalk, Alberta Vice-President. Canola Council of Canada: JoAnne Buth, President. Canadian Seed Trade Association: Jeff Reid, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Competitiveness of Canadian Agriculture.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That all questions be five (5) minutes.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee proceeded to sit in camera at 12:45 to discuss Committee Business.

 

On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 24,100, for the study on the Competitiveness of Canadian Agriculture be adopted.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
