The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 11:48 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Lloyd St. Amand, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Mike Allen, David Anderson, Catherine Bell, Ken Boshcoff, Claude DeBellefeuille, Richard Harris, Christian Ouellet, Lloyd St. Amand, Alan Tonks and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Leon Benoit.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Fréderic Beauregard-Tellier, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: Canada's Forest Industry: Recognizing The Challenges And Opportunities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee make the necessary arrangements for a press conference to be held on Tuesday June 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. after the tabling of the Committee’s report to the House in relation to the study on the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry; and that Committee be represented by the Chair and a representative from each party.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair, issue a news release to announce the Committee’s report in relation to the study on the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting on Tuesday June 3, 2008 be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m..

 

At 12:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mike Allen moved, — Notwithstanding any motions previously adopted by the Committee, that the Standing Committee on Natural Resources finish its study on the greening of electricity in Canada with a focus on the future of renewable energy such as wind, solar, hydro, and other emerging renewable sources immediately following the study on the forest products industry.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
