The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 1:29 p.m. this day, in the Minoru D Room, Best Western Richmond Inn, Richmond, British Columbia, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Paule Brunelle, Colin Carrie, Hon. Dan McTeague, Peggy Nash, James Rajotte, Hon. Raymond Simard, Bruce Stanton, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Eleanor Fast, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: ASL Environmental Sciences Inc.: David Fissel, President. British Columbia Innovation Council: Soren Harbel, Vice-President, Innovation Development. British Columbia Institute of Technology: James Watzke, Dean, Applied Research and Director, Technology Centre and Dr. Tong Louie Living Laboratory. Day4 Energy Inc.: John S. MacDonald, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Canada: Gary Schubak, Manager, Hydrogen Highway project; John Tak, President and Chief Executive Officer. Simon Fraser University: Neil Branda, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Materials Science and Director, Molecular Systems, 4D LABS ; Michael Volker, Director, University, Industry Liaison Office. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 7, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Science and Technology.
 

James Watzke, Donald E. Brooks, Michael Volker and Soren Harbel made statements and, with Angus Livingstone and Neil Branda, answered questions.

 

At 2:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Fissel, John S. MacDonald, John Tak and Gary Schubak made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
