The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met in a televised session at 6:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Pierre Lemieux, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Vivian Barbot, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Laurie Hawn, Gerald Keddy, Pierre Lemieux, Dave MacKenzie and Bernard Patry.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Dewar for Dawn Black, Hon. Keith Martin for Hon. Bryon Wilfert and Hon. Maria Minna for Hon. Bob Rae.

 

Other Members present: Wajid Khan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Robert Dufresne, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Gen Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Yves Brodeur, Assistant Deputy Minister, Afghanistan Task Force. Canadian International Development Agency: Stephen Wallace, Vice-President, Afghanistan Task Force.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of April 8, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
 

Gen Hiller made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 7:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Yves Brodeur and Stephen Wallace made statements and answered questions.

 

At 8:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:24 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Special Committee travel to the United States at a later date this summer than the date previously agreed to.

 

At 8:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
