The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Joe Comartin, Hon. Roy Cullen, Laurie Hawn, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard and Maria Mourani.

 

Acting Members present: Colin Carrie for Rick Norlock and Hon. Garth Turner for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Appearing: Hon. Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety.

 

Witnesses: Department of Public Safety: Suzanne Hurtubise, Deputy Minister. Canada Border Services Agency: Stephen Rigby, Executive Vice-President. Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Jim Judd, Director. Correctional Service Canada: Don Demers, Acting Commissioner. National Parole Board: Mario Dion, Chairperson. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Beverley A. Busson, Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65 under PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
 

Stockwell Day made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
