The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Blaine Calkins, Rodger Cuzner, Gerald Keddy, James Lunney, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning and Scott Simms.

 

Acting Members present: Claude DeBellefeuille for Raynald Blais.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Cal Hegge, Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services. Parks Canada Agency: Patricia E. Kell, Director, Policy and Government Relations Branch, National Historic Sites Directorate. Department of Fisheries and Oceans: David Burden, Director, Real Property, Safety and Security, Divestiture. Parks Canada Agency: Doug Tapley, Manager, Cabinet Affairs.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, June 13, 2007, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-220, An Act to protect heritage lighthouses.
 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1 is postponed.

The Chair calls Clause 2.

 

Patricia Kell and Cal Hegge made a statement and, with David Burden and Doug Tapley, answered questions.

 

At 12:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That Senator Carney, Heritage Canada Foundation and Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society appear before the Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $178,963, for the Committee’s travel to Iqaluit, NU and Kuujjuaq, QC on September 9 to September 14, 2007 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
