The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Paul Forseth, Robert Lanctôt, Pat Martin, Anita Neville, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Ken Epp for Ted White and Monique Guay for Gilles-A. Perron.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: CBC/Radio-Canada: Pierre Nollet, Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary; Michel Tremblay, Vice-President, Strategy and Business Development. As an Individual: Paul Thomas, Professor, University of Manitoba.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 20, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-25, An Act to establish a procedure for the disclosure of wrongdoings in the public sector, including the protection of persons who disclose the wrongdoings.
 

Pursuant to Standing Order 75(1), consideration of Clause 1 is postponed.

The Chair calls Clause 2.

 

Pierre Nollet made a statement and, with Michel Tremblay, answered questions.

 

At 10:10 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:16 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Pat Martin, it was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates undertake a study of the office of the Associate Secretary to the Cabinet and National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, and the appointment of Robert Wright made pursuant to Order in Council 2003-2122, which was tabled in the House of Commons on March 9, 2004 and that the Committee invite Mr. Wright to appear the week of May 24, 2004.

 

Paul Thomas made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
