The
Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons
with Disabilities met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the
Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Members of the Committee
present: Eugène
Bellemare, Libby Davies, John Finlay, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Gurbax
Malhi, Raymond Simard and Diane St-Jacques.
Acting Member(s) present: Ken Epp for Monte Solberg.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:
Chantal Collin and Kevin Kerr, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of Human
Resources Development: Lenore Burton, Director General, Learning and
Literacy Directorate; Yvette Y. Souque, Program Manager, National Literacy Secretariat.
Pursuant to Standing Order
108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Literacy.
The witnesses made opening
statements and answered questions.
At 4:43 p.m., the sitting
was suspended.
At 4:46 p.m., the Committee
proceeded to sit in camera to give instructions to the researchers regarding
the drafting of the report on Literacy.
At 5:20 p.m., the Committee
adjourned to the call of the Chair.
