Thursday, May 31, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Bev Desjarlais, Norman Doyle, Brian Fitzpatrick, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Dominic LeBlanc, Serge Marcil, Brent St. Denis, Paul Szabo.

Other member present: Mark Eyking.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators: Darren Christle, Director, Transportation Safety and Regulation with the Manitoba Department of Transportation and Governement Services. From the Forest Products Association of Canada: David W. Church, Director, Transportation, Recycling and Purchasing. From the Canadian Industrial Transportation Association: Lisa MacGillivray, President, Canadian Industrial Transportation Association. From the Canadian Bus Association: Sylvain Langis, President; Don W. Haire, President, Proteus Transportation Enterprises Inc..

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, May 15, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Transport Act, 1987 and to make consequential amendments to other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 29, 2001, Meeting No. 18).

The witnesses each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 1:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
