The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met in a televised session at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Pierre Brien, Marlene Catterall, Cheryl Gallant, Yvon Godin, Michel Guimond, Jay Hill, Joe Jordan, Geoff Regan and Jacques Saada.

Acting Members present: Mauril Bélanger for Paul Macklin; Wayne Easter for Carolyn Parrish; Dominic Leblanc for Geoff Regan from 12:20 to 12:43; Stan Keyes for John Richardson from 11:11 to 12:20; Claude Duplain for John Richardson from 12:20 to 13:03; Robert Bertrand for Tony Tirabassi; Vic Toews for Garry Breitkreuz; Leon Benoit for Randy White.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.

Witness: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global and Security Policy.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the House of Thursday, February 7, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of the question of privilege raised on January 31, 2002 by the Member for Portage--Lisgar concerning the charge against the Minister of National Defence of making misleading statements in the House (see Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 7, 2002, Meeting No. 43).

Jim Wright made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
