The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Cummins, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, Dominic LeBlanc, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer.
Other Member present: Gerry Byrne.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: David Bevan, Director General, Resource Management; Roy Russell, Acting Director, Resource Management Division, Newfoundland Region. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Robert Hage, Director, European Institutions Division. From the Canadian Association of Prawn Producers: John Angel, Executive Director. From the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union: Earl McCurdy. From the Fisheries Association of Newfoundland and Labrador: Alastair O'Reilly, President. From the Harbour Grace Shrimp Company Limited: Steinar J. Engeset, President. From the Fisheries Council of Canada: Ronald W. Bulmer, President.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a meeting on problems facing Newfoundland shrimpers and related activities.
The Vice-Chair made opening remarks.
David Bevan, Robert Hage, John Angel, Earl McCurdy, Alastair O’Reilly and Steinar Engeset made statements and, with the other witnesses, participated in a roundtable discussion.
At 11:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
