The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Charles L. Caccia, Joe Comartin, John Herron, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Karen Kraft Sloan, Gary Lunn, Karen Redman, Julian Reed, Hélène Scherrer, Alan Tonks.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Tim Williams, analysts.
Witnesses: From the Inverhuron & District Ratepayers Association: Normand de la Chevrotiere, President. From the Manitoba's Future Forest Alliance: Don Sullivan, Executive Director. From the Coalition of Concerned Citizens: Penny Richardson, President; Andrew Dumyn. From Environmental Defence Canada: Michelle Campbell, Coordinator, Citizen Support Programme; Rodney Northey, Lawyer.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Monday, June 4, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, December 4, 2001, Meeting No. 56).
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 9:50 a.m., Karen Kraft Sloan took the Chair.
At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
