Wednesday, April 5, 2000

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, John Finlay, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Ray Bonin, Finlay, Ghislain Fournier, Louise Hardy, David Iftody, Gerald Keddy, Derrek Konrad, Mike Scott, Guy St-Julien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Tonina Simeone, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada: The Honourable Robert Nault, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

Witnesses: From the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada: Shirley Serafini, Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister's Office; Dennis Wallace, Associate Deputy Minister, Associate Deputy Minister Office; Gordon Shanks, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 81(7), the Committee resumed consideration of the 2000-2001 Estimates, Part III - Report on Plans and Priorities, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and Canadian Polar Commission.

The Minister made an opening statement and with Dennis Wallace and Gordon Shanks, answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
