Monday, May 4, 1998
The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:21 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay and Andrew Telegdi.
In attendance: : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.
Appearing: The Hon. Andy Scott, Solicitor General of Canada.
Witnesses: From the Department of the Solicitor General of Canada: Mary Campbell, Director, Corrections Policy. From the Correctional Service of Canada: Ole Ingstrup, Commissioner; Richard Clair, Corporate Secretary. From the National Parole Board: Willie Gibbs, Chairman.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee commenced the comprehensive review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.
The minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 4:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
