Thursday, FEBRUARY 26, 1998
The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:16 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Michel Bellehumeur, Shaughnessy Cohen, Nick Discepola, Sheila Finestone, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, Jack Ramsay and Andrew Telegdi.
Acting Member present: Myron Thompson for Garry Breitkreuz.
Associate Member present: Chuck Cadman.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the National Parole Board: Willie Gibbs, Chairman; Sheila Watkins, Director, Communications Division. From the Correctional Service of Canada: Ole Ingstrup, Commissioner; Richard Clair, Corporate Secretary.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of two (2) reports of a Joint Board of Investigation from the National Parole Board and the Correctional Service of Canada.
Myron Thompson moved, -- That the witnesses be sworn in.
Peter McKay moved, -- That the witnesses file all documents pertaining to the two reports.
And debate arising thereon;
Ole Ingstrup and Willie Gibbs made statements and answered questions.
At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
