The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:38 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Charles Caccia, Aileen Carroll, Yvon Charbonneau, Bill Gilmour, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Rick Laliberté, David Pratt.
Acting Members present: Claude Bachand for Bernard Bigras, Clifford Lincoln for Gar Knutson.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Timothy Reid, President; Robert J. Redhead, Environment Committee. From the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters Canada: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President, Chief Economist; Nancy Coulas, Environmental Policy Analyst. The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-32, An Act respecting pollution prevention and the protection of the environment and human health in order to contribute to sustainable development. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dates Wednesday, May 14, 1998, Meeting No. 53)
The Chair called Clause 1.
Timothy Reid, Robert J. Redhead, Jayson Myers and Michael Cloghesy made opening statements and, with Nancy Coulas, answered questions.
At 5:28 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
