Meeting No. 75

Wednesday, February 24, 1999

The Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Salon A of the Crowne Plaza-Chateau Lacombe, Edmonton, Alberta, the Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, Eric Lowther, Mark Muise and Benoît Sauvageau.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wanda Noël, Consultant

Round Table Participants: From the Alberta Ukrainian Commemorative Society: Peter Savaryn, President; From the "Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta": Liette Villeneuve; From the Calgary Opera Association: Bob McPhee, General Manager and CEO; From the Catalyst Theatre: Heather Redfern, General Manager; From the Edmonton Arts Council: John Mahon, Executive Director; From the Edmonton Opera: Elizabeth Whitlock, General Manager; From the Latitude 53 Society of Artists: Todd Janes, Executive Director; From the Museums Alberta: Adriana A. Davies, Executive Director; From the The Edmonton Art Gallery: Vincent Vaga, Executive Director; As an Individual: Rose Marie Sackela.

Audience Participants: From the Edmonton Symphony: Joan Greabeiel, Director of Finance and Planning; From the National Black Coalition of Canada: Michael Broodhagen.

The Chair made opening remarks.

The Members and participants proceeded to a round table discussion and invited comments from the audience.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of a Canadian Cultural Policy.

At 1:08 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
