MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 39

Thursday, May 18, 2000

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in camera at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Marlene Catterall, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Dennis Gruending, John Herron, Rahim Jaffer, Joe Jordan, Karen Kraft Sloan, Julian Reed and Paddy Torsney.

Acting Members present: Hec Clouthier for Nick Discepola and Aileen Carroll for Walt Lastewka.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Researcher; Christine Labelle, Researcher; Kristen Douglas, Researcher.

The Committee discussed its future business.

It was agreed, - That the Committee hold a briefing meeting on progress in the persistent organic pollutants (POPS) negotiations.

It was agreed, - That the Committee hold a dinner and offer a memento to thank the first Commission of the Environment and Sustainable Development on May 30, 2000 on such other date at the discretion of the Chair.

It was agreed, - That a workplan be prepared for Committee consideration of Bill C-33, An Act respecting the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada.

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
