Context
On February 28, 2019, Candice Bergen (Portage—Lisgar) rose in the House to request an emergency debate, pursuant to Standing Order 52, on alleged political interference in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. Ms. Bergen contended that the testimony provided by the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould (Vancouver Granville), before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights regarding remediation agreements created a crisis of confidence in the Prime Minister, the cabinet and the Clerk of the Privy Council.[1]
Resolution
The Speaker ruled immediately, advising the House of his decision to grant leave for the debate, which would be held later that day.
