M-86 National strategy for action on eye health and vision care
43rd Parliament, 2nd Session
Motion Text
That, in the opinion of the House, the government should work with the provinces, territories, Indigenous communities and government, not-for-profit eye health and vision care organizations towards the creation of a national strategy for action on eye health and vision care that respects jurisdictional authority and Quebec’s right to withdraw with compensation, and that will: (a) establish an Office for vision health at the Public Health Agency of Canada, charged with working with provinces and territories on strategies for eye health, vision care and the full integration of post-vision loss rehabilitation therapy into the health care continuum; (b) enhance funding for vision health research, and ensure representation on dedicated Canadian Institutes of Health Research review and evaluation committees; (c) ensure enhanced access to eye health and vision care for Indigenous peoples, seniors and children; (d) ensure a consistent and reliable supply of medication required to treat eye disease and conditions; and (e) engage in a public information campaign through the Public Health Agency of Canada to influence individual behaviour and encourage Canadians to think about their eye health and vision care.
