The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 11:06 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Sheila Finestone, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Warren Allmand, Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Maurice Bernier, Sheila Finestone and Andy Scott.

Acting Member present: Morris Bodnar for Russell MacLellan.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(3), a study of new technologies and Privacy Rights (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, June 13, 1996, Issue No. 2).

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of future business of the Committee.

On motion of Andy Scott, it was agreed,--That, notwithstanding its decision of Thursday, November 28, 1996, as part of its study of Privacy Rights and New Technologies, the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities seek the permission of the House for six Members to travel to Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Fredericton, during the week of March 10-14, 1997, for the purpose of holding televised hearings, and that the necessary staff accompany the Committee.

It was agreed,--That the contract with Jean-Yves Durocher be amended to permit an additional $930 in travel expenses, as required.

At 12:29 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

It was agreed,--That the Committee engage Valerie Steeves to assist the research staff in the preparation of the report on Privacy Rights and New Technologies during April 1997 at a rate of $400/day, the total amount of the contract not to exceed $9,000.

At 12:14 o'clock p.m., Maurice Bernier took the Chair.

At 12:15 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
