The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 8:45 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chairman, Jerry Pickard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Marlene Cowling, Jake Hoeppner, Jean Landry, John Maloney, Glen McKinnon, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed and Lyle Vanclief.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator, and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From The Crop Protection Institute: Jack King, President; Charles Milne, Vice-President, Government Affairs; Cam Davreux, Vice-President. From Health Canada: Ivo Krupka, Head Policies--Alternatives--Legislation--Compliance--Communications, Pest Management, Regulatory Agency.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study on farm input costs.
Jack King and the other witnesses made statements and answered questions.
Ivo Krupka made a statement and answered questions.

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:45 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chairman, Jerry Pickard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Marlene Cowling, Wayne Easter, Jake Hoeppner, Jean Landry, John Maloney, Glen McKinnon, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed and Lyle Vanclief.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officer.
The Committee considered a draft letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada regarding farm input costs.
It was agreed--``That the draft letter be amended by adding a legend to Figure 4''.
On motion of Marlene Cowling, it was agreed--That the draft letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada regarding farm input costs be adopted, as amended.
The Committee considered a draft letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada regarding certification standards for organic food production.
On motion of Lyle Vanclief, it was agreed--That the draft letter be amended by deleting the second sentence of the second paragraph and replacing it with a sentence expressing the Committee's desire to examine the draft regulations on certification standards for organic food production before they become law.
It was agreed--That the draft letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food concerning certification standards for organic food production be adopted, as amended.
The Committee considered the Seventh Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure.
On motion of Marlene Cowling, it was agreed--That the Report be amended by adding to paragraph 5, section 3 ``farm women's organizations''.
It was agreed--That the Seventh Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted, as amended.
At 10:30 o'clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 8:35 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chairman, Jerry Pickard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Cliff Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Marlene Cowling, Wayne Easter, Elwin Hermanson, Jake Hoeppner, Jean Landry, John Maloney, Glen McKinnon, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed and Lyle Vanclief.

Witnesses: From the Western Barley Growers' Association: Wayne Kriz, President. From the Western Canadian Wheat Growers' Association: Pat Durnin, Chairman. From the Western Grain Marketing Panel: Tom Molloy, Chief Panelist. From the Wheat Board Commission: Lorne Hehn, Chief Commissionner.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a general discussion on the results of the Alberta plebiscite and the single-desk selling of wheat and barley by the Canadian Wheat Board.

Lorne Hehn made a statement and answered questins.
