Dear Mr. Allison:

Pursuant to Standing Order 109 of the House of Commons, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the members of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities for your efforts and acknowledge the work done by the Committee in developing the First Report of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities entitled “Summer Career Placement Program”.

The Government appreciates the work of the Standing Committee, which will assist in ensuring that the Summer Career Placements (SCP) initiative continues to be relevant and responsive to the needs of Canadian students.

To this effect, the Government is reviewing the recommendations made in the Report as to ensure that going forward, the SCP program is effective, transparent, and aligned with current labour market realities.

The Government of Canada remains committed to ensuring that the SCP program continues to serve the interests of students and sponsors and maintains an open, transparent and competitive selection process to ensure that Canadians get an effective program that delivers value for taxpayers’ money.

Sincerely,

The Hon. Diane Finley, P.C., M.P.
