Whereas:
  • Raw organic milk from cows, goats, and sheep contains beneficial enzymes and nutrients that are altered or destroyed during pasteurization;
  • Several countries, including France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, allow the sale and consumption of raw organic milk under regulated conditions;
  • Raw milk can be produced safely with proper hygiene practices, regular testing, and farmer training; and
  • Canadians should have the right to make informed decisions about their food choices.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to 1. Re-examine policies regarding the production, sale, and distribution of raw organic milk from cows, goats, and sheep;
2. Develop clear guidelines for the safe production and handling of raw organic milk, including : mandatory training for farmers on risk management and hygiene practices; regular testing of milk for pathogens and quality indicators and; -proper labeling and consumer education on potential risks and benefits;
3. Allow provinces to regulate the sale of raw milk through various channels, such as farm-direct sales, herd shares, or licensed retailers;
4. Recognize consumers' right to choose raw milk products while ensuring public health safeguards are in place; and
5. Support further research on the health benefits associated with raw milk consumption.
