Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
- Israel’s violent offensive against Lebanon has caused massive destruction and considerable loss of life, with more than 2,000 dead and 10,000 injured as of October 4, 2024;
- More than one million Lebanese have been forced to flee the areas affected by the bombing, which has worsened the economic and humanitarian crisis that is making the situation untenable;
- Canada is a signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR-1948);
- Canada is known as a country of refuge for people fleeing conflict and persecution;
- As a defender of human rights and humanitarian values, Canada has a duty to live up to its international reputation by enabling the families of its citizens and permanent residents to be hosted temporarily;
- By supporting this request, Canada would be showing not only solidarity with its citizens of Lebanese origin, but also its commitment to uphold fundamental humanitarian principles; and
- As sponsors of our family members, we will cover all of the financial costs of their stay in Canada, including travel, accommodation, medical and living expenses.
