Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • Israel’s violent offensive against Lebanon has caused massive destruction and considerable loss of life, with more than 2,000 dead and 10,000 injured as of October 4, 2024;
  • More than one million Lebanese have been forced to flee the areas affected by the bombing, which has worsened the economic and humanitarian crisis that is making the situation untenable;
  • Canada is a signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR-1948);
  • Canada is known as a country of refuge for people fleeing conflict and persecution;
  • As a defender of human rights and humanitarian values, Canada has a duty to live up to its international reputation by enabling the families of its citizens and permanent residents to be hosted temporarily;
  • By supporting this request, Canada would be showing not only solidarity with its citizens of Lebanese origin, but also its commitment to uphold fundamental humanitarian principles; and
  • As sponsors of our family members, we will cover all of the financial costs of their stay in Canada, including travel, accommodation, medical and living expenses.
We, the undersigned, citizens and permanent residents of Canada of Lebanese origin, call upon the Government of Canada to grant emergency temporary visitor visas to our family members by simplifying and speeding up the process so that they can find temporary refuge in Canada.
