Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • The City of Merritt has experienced significant flooding events in recent years, causing extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure;
  • These flooding events have placed a substantial burden on the community, both financially and emotionally;
  • There is an urgent need to safeguard the community, infrastructure and its residents from weather events by implementing our Flood Mitigation Plan that was created as a DMAF (Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund) pre-funding qualifier; and
  • The proposed dike system plan is a crucial step towards ensuring the future safety and resilience of Merritt.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to Support the City of Merritt's application for the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) or similarly focused program to fund the implementation of the dike system plan as outlined in Merritt’s Flood Mitigation Plan, which will provide essential flood protection and enhance the community's ability to withstand future flooding events.
